Heräsin puoli kahdeksalta vajaan viiden tunnin yöunien jälkeen. Onneksi olen nukkunut aiemmin risteilyllä kunnolla, niin energiaa riitti koko päivään. Tapasin aamiaisella sattumalta Geoffreyn ja hänen isoäitinsä. Maahantulo tapahtui ryhmittäin, olin ryhmässä numero 21. Matkalaukku oli pitänyt jättää jo edellisenä iltana hytin oven ulkopuolelle. Maahantulo sujui lähes jonoitta, koska systeemi oli paljon edellisen päivän Esta-hässäkkää parempi. Pian olin jo taksissa kohti keskustaa (US$13 + tippi $2), ja hetkessä olin osoitteen 405 Calle San Francisco edessä. Hostellini Posada San Francisco vaikutti todella hyvältä. Jätin matkatavarani säilöön, vietin jonkin aikaa hostellin parvekkeella ja sitten lähdin kävelylle vanhaankaupunkiin.
I woke up at 8.30 am after sleeping five hours. Luckily I have rest earlier during the cruise to have energy all day long. I met Geoffrey and his granny at the breakfast buffet. We left the ship in groups, I was on the 21st. You were supposed to leave your suitcase outside your cabin already the night before. Entering Puerto Rico was much smoother than the day before, as they had a much better system. Soon I was in a taxi towards 405 Calle San Francisco. My hostel called Posada San Francisco seemed to be really nice. I left my luggage to luggage storage, spent some time at the balcony, and then I went for a walk in the old town.

Hetken käveltyäni huomasin turisti-infon, josta sain paljon hyviä vinkkejä näitä paria päivää varten. Huomasin esitehyllyssä suklaaravintola Chocolate Bar Casa Cortésin esitteen, ja silloin tiesin, missä nauttisin lounaan :D Olin huomannut kaupungin keskustassa liikkuvia turistibusseja ja kun sain tietää että ne ovat maksuttomia, hyppäsin tietenkin heti kyytiin. Tässä kuvia matkan varrelta:
After walking a while I noticed the tourist info, where I got lots of tips, what to do here. I noticed a brochure of Chocolate Bar Casa Cortés, and at that point I knew where I would have my lunch at :D I had already noticed trolleys going around, and as I heard that they are free of charge, I of course jumped instantly on board. Here are some pictures along the way:
Kahdelta alkoi olla nälkä, joten etsin suklaaravintolan ja nautin siellä elämäni ensimmäisen suklaata sisältäneen salaatin. Viinietikka sisälsi valkosuklaata ja krutongit olivat suklaiset. Paras osa lounasta oli kuitenkin tämä Luna Negra, jäinen suklaasmoothie, joka sisälsi hieman rommia.
At 2 pm I was getting hungry, so I searched this chocolate restaurant and I ate the first salad that included chocolate. Vinaigrette included white chocolate, and there were also chocolate crutouns. The best part was the iced chocolate smoothie calld Luna Negra, with some rum.

Lounaalta jatkoin pitkin Calle San Francisco -katua vähitellen takaisin hostellille, koska sisäänkirjautuminen oli kello 15 ja 17 välillä. Vastaanoton niukat aukiolotunnit olivat oikeastaan hostellin huonoin puoli, eli käytännössä majapaikassa ei ollut juuri mitään moitittavaa. Jäin matkatavarat vietyäni ja sängyn tarkastettuani hetkeksi hotellin parvekkeelle, jossa tutustuin Chicagosta kotoisin olevaan Alexiin ja Santa Cruzista, Kaliforniasta kotoisin oleviin Canaaniin ja Danaan. He olivat menossa rannalle ja pyysivät minua mukaansa, joten liityin heidän seuraan. Rannalla oli auringonlaskun lähestyessä todella kaunista ja vesi oli todella lämmintä.
I went back to the hostel after lunch along Calle San Francisco, as you needed to check in between 3 and 5 pm. The short reception hours were the worst side of the hostel, so there was basically nothing to complain about. I stayed at the balcony for a while after leaving my luggage to the room and after checking my bed. At the balcony I met Alex from Chicago and Canaan and Dana from Santa Cruz, California. They were on their way to the beach and asked me to join them. It was really beautiful at the beach just before sunset and the water was really warm.
Kävin illallisella Mojito's-ravintolassa Alexin kanssa ja söin paikallista ruokaa, mofongoa, joka oli todella hyvää. Alexin kielitaidosta oli hyötyä tilausta tehdessä – täällä päin liikkuessa tulisi osata espanjaa!
I went to a dinner to restaurant called Mojito's with Alex and ate local speciality called mofongo, which was really good. Alex's language skills became important while ordering – I should know some Spanish as I'm travelling here!
Maanantaina 17.11. heräsin päivään kaikessa rauhassa. Puoliltapäivin lähdin postin kautta liikkeelle: lähetin Suomeen muutamia ostoksiani ja pari vaatekappaletta, jotka olivat olleet mukana risteilyä varten. Sitten jatkoin satamaan ja paikallisella lautalla ($1 meno-paluu) ja kimppataksilla ($3/suunta) Bacardin tehdasvierailulle. Sitä oli mainostettu maksuttomaksi, mutta nykyään tavallinenkin kierros maksaa $12.48 – se tosin sisältää yhden valinnaisen drinkin. Kierros oli aiempiin vastaaviin käymiini vierailuihin verrattuna pieni pettymys, koska tehtaan tiloja ei juurikaan esitelty. Bacardin historiaa esitellyt muutaman minuutin video oli ihan kohtalainen, mutta käynti olisi voinut olla mieluisampikin.
On Monday 17th November I woke up without any hurry. At noon I left to the post office, as I sent back to Finland some things I had bought and a dress and skirt that I had with me only for the cruise. Then I walked to the harbourfront and by a local ferry ($1 return) and by a shared taxi ($3 one way) to the Bacardi Distillery. The basic tour was $12.48 and it included one drink. The tour was a disappointment in comparison to similar factory tours that I've previously had, because they didn't show that much the real factory, mainly just the visitor centre. The movie that presented Bacardi's history was ok, though.
Palasin hostellille ja nukuin pienet päiväunet ennen kuin lähdin päivälliselle Danan ja Canaanin kanssa. Herätys oli seuraavana aamuna lennolle ennen aamukolmea, joten menin nukkumaan ajoissa.
I went back to the hostel and had a nap before I went to a dinner with Dana and Canaan. I needed to wake up for my flight the following morning before 3 am, so I went to sleep early.

San Juan oli todella mielenkiintoinen kaupunki, ehkä suosikkini tällä matkalla tähän mennessä, mutta Bacardin tehdasvierailun sijaan olisi toinen päivä kannattanut viettää joko linnoituksilla tai kaupungin ulkopuolella.
San Juan was a really interesting city, maybe my favourite on this trip this far, but instead of Bacardi Distillery it would have been better to spend the other day either at the two fortresses or outside the city.
