14-16/80: Karibia/The Caribbean: St. Maarten/St. Martin, St. Kitts, and St. Thomas 13.-15.11.2014

Olen parhaillaan Orlandossa lentokenttähotellissa huomista San Diegon lentoa varten. Risteilystä on jo lähes viikko, mutta palaan vielä hetkeksi muistelemaan kolmea Karibian saaren pysähdystä ennen kuin laiva saapui San Juaniin, Puerto Ricoon. Kuvat löytyvät pääosin aiemmista blogipäivityksistä.

At the moment I am in Orlando at an airport hotel for tomorrow's flight to San Diego. It is almost a week since I got off from the cruise, but in this blog post I return to those three days on Caribbean islands before the ship docked to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Photos are mainly in the previous blog posts.

14/80: St. Maarten/St. Martin 13.11.2014

Torstaiaamuna laiva saapui Philipsburgiin, jaetulle St. Maartenin/St. Martinin saarelle, joka on ilmeisesti ainoa kahden valtion jakama saari. Laiva saapui suht aikaisin satamaan, joten tuoksi aamuksi olin tilannut aamiaisen hyttiin.

On Thursday morning the ship arrived to Philipsburg, to the divided island of St. Maarten/St. Martin, which apparently is the only island that is shared by two countries. I had ordered breakfast to my cabin for that morning because of the quite early arrival to the port.




Lähdimme seitsemän hengen ryhmässä viettämään päivää. Ensin ajoimme taksilla ($7/hlö) Ranskan puolelle Marigotin kaupunkiin, jossa kävimme linnoituksella katsomassa näköaloja ja sitten torilla ostoksilla. Saarella yksi euro on yksi USD, eli kannattaa käyttää vain dollareita. Jatkoimme toisella taksilla (jälleen $7/hlö) päivän pääkohteeseen eli Maho Beachille, joka sijaitsee aivan lentokentän vieressä. Saarella on kuulemma paljon parempiakin rantoja, mutta lentokoneiden lähteminen ja saapuminen tekee rannasta hyvin erikoisen. Jos aikoo Maho Beachille, sinne kannattaa mennä kello 11 ja klo 13 välillä nähdäkseen isoimmat koneet. Rannan vieressä on ravintola, jossa voi viettää aikaa valokuvien oton välissä, ellei uiminen lentokentän vierellä olevalla rannalla kiehdo.

I spent the day in a group of seven people. First we took a taxi ($7 per person) to the French side, to Marigot, where we climbed up to the fort for the views, and then did some shopping at the market place. One euro is worth one US dollar at the island, so it is reasonable to use only dollars. We took another taxi (another $7 per person) to our main stop, to Maho Beach, which is just next to the airport and very famous about that. There are much better beaches on the island, but arrivals and departures of airplanes makes it really special! If you are heading there, go between 11 am and 1 pm for the biggest airplanes. There is a restaurant called Sunset Bar & Grill next to the beach, if you don't want to swim on a beach next to the airport.




Neljä meistä – minä, toinen Liisa, Dimas ja Vesa – jatkoimme yhdessä takaisin Philipsburgiin ($8/hlö), jossa teimme ostoksia ja rentouduimme rantabulevardilla. Jossain vaiheessa myös Otto liittyi seuraamme. Palasimme satamaan vesitaksilla ($5/hlö). Illalla kävin päivällisellä kaimani Liisan kanssa Mozart-illallissalissa. Illan show oli pettymys, eikä seuraavanakaan iltana taso parantunut. Alkuristeilyn esitykset olivat olleet paljon parempia. Parhaat naurut tuona iltana sain saapuessani huoneeseeni, kun tämä odotti minua sohvalla kaukosäädin sylissään:

Four of us – me, another Liisa, Dimas, and Vesa – continue together back to Philipsburg downtown ($8 per person), where we did some shopping and relaxed in a bar next to the beach. At some point also Otto joined us. We returned to the port by a water taxi ($5 per person). In the evening I had a dinner with Liisa in the Mozart dining hall. The show that night was a disappointment, and the next evening's show was as bad as well. In the beginning of the cruise shows were much better. The most entertaining moment of that night was when I arrived to my room, and someone was waiting for me on the couch:




15/80: St. Kitts 14.11.2014

Perjantaina vietin päivän kahdesta saaresta koostuvan St. Kitts & Nevisin pienen saarivaltion St. Kittsin saarella yksin. Aluksi yritin etsiä sopivan opastetun kierroksen, koska saamani tarjoukset taksin käytöstä olivat varsin hintavia. Kierroksen löytäminen oli haastavaa, koska kaupustelijoita oli joka lähtöön. Jos olisi halunnut kierroksen TripAdvisorin kärkisijoja pitäviltä firmoilta, olisi sellainen pitänyt varata etukäteen. Yksi vaihtoehto olisi ollut mennä kolmen tunnin junakierrokselle saaren ympäri, mutta US$100 hintalappu tuntui liian suurelta. Päädyin Austin Powers Toursin kierrokselle ($25), jonka parasta antia oli ylipäätään saaren näkeminen Basseterren ulkopuolelta ja näköalat viimeiseltä näköalapaikalta kohti Nevisin saarta.

On Friday I spent the day at St. Kitts on my own. At first I tried to find a suitable guided tour around the island, because the offers of using a taxi on your own were too expensive. It was challenging to find one, because there were so many people offering their products. If you want to have a tour by a company which is recommended on TripAdvisor, here's a tip: book in advance! One option would have been to take the old sugar cane train around the island, three hours, but US$100 seemed a bit too much. I ended up to a guided tour by Austin Powers Tours ($25). It was good to see the island outside Basseterre, and the views towards Nevis were magnificent at the last lookout.




Ennen paluuta laivalle tein ostoksia Basseterressa ja postitin pari korttia Suomeen. Rinkan täytteeksi tuli rihkamakoruja (3 kpl USD 20) ja tunika ($25). Muuten kauppojen anti oli suht sama kuin edellisessäkin satamassa: matkamuistoja ja timantteja. Saarella on käytössä kaksi valuuttaa: Itä-Karibian dollari ja USD. Kaikki ilmoittamani hinnat ovat USD ja käytin vain niitä. Palattuani laivaan kävin illallisella neljän suomalaisen kanssa ennen illan showta. Tällä kertaa menin ajoissa nukkumaan seuraavaa saaripäivää varten, kun moni muu vielä jäi jatkamaan iltaa.

Before returning to the ship I did some shopping in Basseterre and I sent a couple of postcards to Finland. The shops were mainly the same here as in the previous port: souvenirs and diamonds. There are two currencies in use at the island: Eastern Caribbean Dollar and US Dollar, but used only USD. After returning to the ship I had another great dinner this time with the group of four finns in the dining hall before the night's show. This time I wanted to go asleep early to have some energy for the next day at another island, when others still stayed at the night club.

16/80: St. Thomas 15.11.2014

Lauantaiaamuna risteilyä oli jäljellä vielä vuorokauden verran. Yhdysvaltain Neitsytsaariin kuuluvaan St. Thomasin saarelle Charlotte Amalieen saapuessa piti jonottaa Esta-tarkastukseen. Jonossa meni puolitoista tuntia. Satamassa oli jälleen runsaasti matkamuisto- ja korumyymälöitä sekä taksin tarjoajia. Minä ja Dimas suuntasimme kulkumme kohti cable car -vaunujen lähtöpistettä. Cable car -ajelulta ($21/hlö meno-paluu) oli todella hyvät näköalat. Ylhäällä Paradise Pointissa oli kiva ravintola ja muutamia kauppoja, joista merirosvoesineistöön erikoistunut puoti oli tietysti suosikkini.

On Saturday morning there was only one night left on the cruise. We needed to queue for immigration control when the ship had docked to Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas island, that belongs to US Virgin Islands. After one and half hours we passed the immigration check. There were again lots of souvenir and jewellery shops next to the port, and people offering taxi or a guided tour, but me and Dimas walked to the place were cable cars go up to the Paradise Point. Taking the cable car ($21 return per person) was a really nice way to see the island from up in the air. Up in the Paradise Point the restaurant was good and there were also some souvenir shops; the one called Pirate's Chest was obviously the best one.




Menimme paikallisbussia vastaavalla taksikyydillä keskustaan, kun kuljettaja tahtoi matkasta vain dollarin per henkilö ja kävelimme jonkin aikaa Charlotte Amalien vanhassakaupungissa. Aivan kaupunkikeskustan jätimme suosiolla väliin, koska se koostui pelkistä timanttikaupoista. En ole koko aiemman elämäni aikana nähnyt niin montaa korukauppaa kuin näiden kolmen saaripäivän aikana! En itse olisi ollut kovin hyvä asiakas, koska en varmasti erottaisi lopulta, onko jokin pelkkä lasinpala vai timantti. Sen sijaan laivalle palatessamme huomasin tämän helmikaupan, jossa oli upea ja uniikki musta helmikoru, jonka ostaminen ei ollut kovin kaukana. Ellei suurin osa matkasta olisi edessä, olisin hankkinut sen itselleni. Lopulta päädyin vain ihastelemaan tarjontaa. Suosittelen The Pearl Ladyä lämpimästi, se on ydinkeskustan ulkopuolella, mutta takuulla käymisen arvoinen.

We took a taxi/bus ride from the bus stop to the centre, as the driver asked only a dollar from each, and we walked for some time in the old town. We skipped the streets in the very centre, as they were again only diamond shops. On the way back to the ship I noticed this pearl shop called The Pearl Lady, and if the most of the trip wouldn't have been ahead, I might have bought a black pearl from there. I highly recommend the pearl shop, it is a bit outside the main centre but totally worth a visit.




Palasimme satamaan samanlaisella kyydillä kuin tulimme, tällä kertaa neljän dollarin hintaan. Pyörimme hetken matkamuistomyymälöissä ja kävimme drinkeillä satamaan tulleiden tuttujen kasvojen kanssa ennen laivan lähtöä. Seitsemältä menin illalliselle Dimasin kanssa ja yhdeksältä menimme katsomaan päätösshown. Sitten olikin kiire pakata rinkka ennen kello 23:n laukkujen jättämisen määräaikaa.

We came back to the port by a similar taxi/bus, but this time was $4 each. We did some souvenir shopping and had drinks with some familiar cruise travellers before it was time to return to the ship. At 7 pm I had a dinner with Dimas, followed by the farewell show at 9 pm. Then I was already in a hurry to pack my things before 11 pm when the staff came to take our bags outside cabins.










Pakkaamiseen tuli ylimääräistä ohjelmaa, kun huomasin kahden valkoisen paitani puuttuvan, eikä niitä löytynyt mistään, vaikka kävin matkatavarani kahteen kertaan läpi. Ilmeisesti olin heittänyt ne pyyhkeen kanssa lattialle illalliselle lähtiessäni, joten vika ei ollut siivoojan vaan itseni. Pakkasin rinkkani lopulta vain 20 minuutissa alusta loppuun. Jättäessäni oman rinkkapussini hytin ulkopuolelle suurin osa käytävän matkatavaroista oli jo viety, mutta lopulta minunkin rinkkani oli noukittu talteen. Matkatavaroiden jättämisen jälkeen oli hyvästien aika. Päätin illan käymällä ihastelemassa tähtiä yksin laivan suosikkipaikassani eli laivan keulassa, tuolloin kello taisi näyttää puoli kolme.

When I was packing my things I suddenly noticed that two white shirts were missing. I couldn't find them although I checked all my stuff twice. Apparently I had thrown them to the floor with the towel when I was leaving to the dinner, so it was basicly my own fault. In the end I packed my backpack in 20 minutes. The most of the luggage had been taken from the corridor when I left my luggage outside cabin, but at some point of the night also my luggage had been taken care of. After leaving my luggage it was time to say goodbye. Finally I ended the night visiting once more my favourite spot on the ship, the front of the ship, where I could see the stars. It was about 2.30 am and then it was time to get some sleep.







Charlotte Amaliessa tuli fiilis, että Yhdysvaltain Neitsytsaarille voisi matkata toisenkin kerran ja tutustua myös muihin saariin. Ne vaikuttivat olevan lähellä toisiaan. Jos joku lukija miettii Karibian kohdetta, näistä kolmesta tutustumastani valitsisin itse ehkä tämän viimeisen, vaikka kaksi aiempaakin olivat oikein mielenkiintoisia. St. Kittsillä kokemukseni olisi ehkä ollut erilainen, jos olisin liikkunut isommassa seurueessa ja tällöin kaupustelu ei ehkä olisi ollut niin aggressiivista. Samoin Nevisin saari vaikutti todella houkuttelevalta. Ylipäätään suosittelen Karibiaa lomakohteena erittäin paljon!

In Charlotte Amalie it felt like I could travel to US Virgin Islands some day again, and see also other islands than St. Thomas as it seemed they are really close by each other. If someone is thinking about a nice destination in the Caribbean, I would choose the last one, although the two others were also interesting. Overall I highly recommend travelling to the Caribbean!

8-13/80: Kuusi päivää merellä / Six Days at the Ocean 7.-12.11.2014

Olen parhaillaan St. Maartenin saarella Philipsburgissa. Kävimme myös Ranskan puolella Marigotissa ja sitten kuuluisalla Maho Beachilla lentokentän vieressä. Mahtava, kuuma, aurinkoinen päivä! Mutta tässä kuulumisia kuudelta viime päivältä ennen Karibiaa.

I'm at the moment at St. Maarten Island in Philipsburg. We went also to the French side: to Marigot, and then to the famous Maho Beach next to the airport! But here's what happened during the last six days before the Caribbean.

Tekeminen ei lopu kesken tältä laivalta. Aiemmin mainitsemieni viiniluentojen, historiallisten kohdekatsausten ja joka ilta vaihtuvien yllättävän tasokkaiden esitysten lisäksi on seinäkiipeilyä, tanssitunteja, minigolfia, luistelua, rullaluistelua ja ulkoilmaelokuvia. Lisämaksusta pääsisi mm. joogatunnille, viinimaistajaisiin ja pelaamaan bingoa. Laivalta löytyy kuntosali, kasino, kauneushoitola, uima-altaat, kirjasto, koripallokenttä, pieni elokuvateatteri ja vihkikappelikin. Ja välillä on kiva olla tekemättä yhtään mitään! Tässä blogipäivityksessä kerron kuudesta päivästäni Atlantilla Madeiran ja Teneriffan jälkeen. En olisi uskonut, että lähes viikko voi mennä laivalla näin nopeasti!

There's so much to do on board. I have already told you about historical destination classes, wine classes, and surprisingly good shows on board. There is also rock climbing, dance lessons, minigolf, ice skating, rollerblade skating and an outdoor movie screen. Fpr an extra fee there are yoga classes, wine tastings and bingo among multiple other things. You can find on board a gym, casino, beauty spa, pools, library, movie screening room and even a wedding chapel. And sometimes it's nice to do nothing at all! In this blog post I tell you about my six days crossing the Atlantic Ocean after Madeira and Tenerife. I would have not believed that almost a week can go this fast on board!



















8/80: Aurinkoinen perjantai / A Sunny Friday 7.11.2014

Perjantaina osallistuin jälleen Michael Hickin pitämään historia- ja kulttuuriesittelyyn, tällä kertaa Alankomaiden ja Ranskan jakamasta St. Maartenin/St. Martinin saaresta.

On Friday I took again part in history and culture class by Mr. Michael Hick, this time about St. Maarten/St. Martin, the divided island between the Dutch and the French.




Tuona päivänä ohjelmassa ei ollut viiniluentoa, joten päätimme Dimasin kanssa lähteä nauttimaan auringosta. Huomasimme parikin paikkaa, joissa kumpikaan ei ollut aiemmin käynyt – 11. kannelta pääsi ihastelemaan komentosiltaa ja siellä ollessamme tajusimme, että matkustajat pääsevät laivan keulaankin. Dimas kertoi, että kaikilla laivoilla se ei ole mahdollista.

On that day there wasn't any wine lessons, so Dimas and I decided to go outside to enjoy the perfect weather. We noticed two places, where neither of us had previously been. The other one was the place where you could see the bridge and while beeing there we realized, that it's possible for the passengers to go too the front of the ship. Dimas told, that it isn't possible on all cruise ships.










Pienen etsimisen jälkeen portaat kohti laivan keulaa löytyivät 4. kannen ulkokannelta. / After searching for a while, we found the staircase to the front of the ship at outer deck 4.
















Kävimme katsomassa road trip -komedian nimeltään RV elokuvateatterilla ja sitten olikin jo aika valmistautua illalliselle, jolle menin Dimasin kanssa. Myöhemmin, illan musiikkishown jälkeen, tapasimme Erinin ja walesiläisen Cain Jester's-klubilla ja tanssimme pitkälle yöhön.

We went to watch a road trip comedy called R.V. in the screening room and then it was time to get ready for the dinner that I shared with Dimas that night. Later, after the music show at the theatre, we met Erin and Cai from Wales at the Jester's nightclub and danced for a long time.

9/80: Titanic-hetkeni / My Titanic Moment 8.11.2014

Lauantaina menin lounaalle Erinin ja hänen äitinsä ystävän kanssa. Pöytämme oli suoraan laivan perällä. / On Saturday I had a lunch with Erin and her mother's friend. Our table was just in the end of the ship.




Iltapäivä meni jälleen luennoilla. Tämänkertaisen Jeff Mathyn viiniluennon aiheena olivat uuden ja vanhan maailman viinit ja niiden erot, sekä se, kuinka samoilla alueilla valmistetaan niin uuden- kuin vanhantyyppisiä viinejä.

I spent the afternoon at classes. This time the wine lesson by Jeff Mathy was about New vs. Old World Wines, their differences, and the fact that the same area can produce both new and old world style wines.







Olin tavannut Dimasin teatterilla, ja luentojen jälkeen menimme yhdessä laivan keulaan. Edellisenä päivänä olin jos uskaltautunut kaiteiden viereen, tällä kerralla uskalsin nojatakin:

I had met Dimas at the theatre, and after classes we went together to the front of the ship. The previous day I had already been brave enough to go next to the railing, but this time I had the guts to lean:







Söin tuona iltana illallissalissa yksin. Kahdeksalta Erin ja Cai tulivat viettämään iltaa hyttiini, josta jatkoimme Jester'siin.

That night I had a dinner at the dining hall on my own. At 8 pm Erin and Cai came to my cabin to spend the evening that we continued at Jester's.




10/80: Hän näyttää suomalaiselta / He Looks Like a Finn 9.11.2014

Sunnuntain vastaisena yönä kellot kääntyivät ensimmäisen kerran tunnin taaksepäin, mutta se ei estänyt minua nukkumasta yhteentoista asti. Mennessäni lounaalle Windjammeriin huomasin kovin suomalaisen näköisen miehen, joka osoittautui olevankin Suomesta, ja lounastin hänen, Erinin ja hänen äitinsä kanssa. Otto on matkalla kolmen suomalaisen kaverinsa kanssa. Jatkoin aurinkokannelle Erinin kanssa ja puoli kahdelta Michael Hickin luennolle paratiisisaarista. Aurinko tuntui polttavan kuumalta, ja he jotka eivät välitä aurinkovoiteista, näyttävät saavan melkoisia palovammoja. Jätin viiniluennon väliin, koska minusta tuntui, että tarvitsen vielä päiväunet ennen iltaa – laivan keinutus tuntuu väsyttävän itse kutakin. Suomalaiset olivat kutsuneet minut illalliselle, joten liityin heidän seuraansa. Oli toinen laivan kolmesta "formal night"ista, kaikki pukeutuivat hienosti.

On early Sunday morning clocks turned first time one hour back, but it didn't stop me from sleeping until 11 am. On the way to the Windjammer I noticed a guy who looked like a Finn, and he was! I had a lunch with him, Erin and her mother. Otto is travelling with three friends. Me and Erin went to the sun deck and the sun was burning hot. I had a history lesson but skipped the wine lesson as I felt quite sleepy – the movement of the ship seems to affect that way to many of us on board. The Finns had invited me to join them to the dinner, so I went. It was second of the three formal nights on board, everybody had dressed up really nicely.




Teatterilla olleen tanssishown jälkeen luistinradan päälle kannen 3 Studio B:hen oli rakennettu iso tanssilattia ja siellä laivan orkesteri soitti tunnin ajan tanssimusiikkia – vakioita ja lattareja. Onnekseni Dimas osaa tanssia! Ilta jatkui Jester'sissä pitkälle yöhön.

After the dance show at Lyric there was ballroom dancing at Studio B on Deck 3. Luckily Dimas can dance! Then the night continued at Jester's.







11/80: Mahtava jääshow / What an Incredible Ice Show! 10.11.2014

Maanantai, yhdeksäs päivä risteilyllä, oli usean aurinkoisen, kuuman päivän jälkeen virkistävän viileä ja pilvinen – ehkä vain parisenkymmentä astetta :D Tapasin puoliltapäivin Erinin ja hänen seurueensa sekä Dimasin ja lounastimme yhdessä, jonka jälkeen menimme katsomaan jääshown, joka oli ehdottomasti paras show tähän mennessä. Erityisesti akrobatiaesitys oli todella hieno.

Monday, 9th day on cruise, was refreshingly cloudy and maybe only 20 degrees Celsius :D I met Erin and her cruise companion, and also Dimas at Windjammer and we had a lunch together. After lunch we went to see the ice show, which has been absolutely the best show this far. Specially the acrobacy part was stunning.

Altailla ei ollut pilvisen sään takia suurta vilskettä, joten viihdyin 11. kannen ulkokannella useamman tunnin. Katsoin sivusilmällä elokuvaa nimeltään "The Notebook" isolta screeniltä, kirjoitin blogipäivitystäni Madeirasta ja Teneriffasta ja nautin pelkästä olemisesta. Ennen iltaa kävin ostamassa jo pari kertaa ihastelemani Cliniquen huulikiiltosetin "huimaan" 30 dollarin hintaan. Ok, huulikiillot ovat normaalikokoa pienempiä, mutta ei Suomesta saisi tuolla rahalla kahtakaan... Eläköön verovapaa myynti :D

There wasn't that crowded at the pools because of the 'cooler' weather, so I stayed at 11th outer deck several hours. I watched partly the movie called "The Notebook" from the big poolside screen, I wrote the blog post about Madeira and Tenerife, and enjoyed doing basically nothing at all. Before the night I went to buy Clinique lip gloss set that I had been checking a couple of times already. It was just 30 dollars.




Luksusillallisia illallissalissa on ollut nyt aika monta, joten tänään päätin mennä buffettiin. Se osoittautui oikein hyväksi valinnaksi, koska siellä oli sushia! Söin alkuun sushia, sitten kaikkea muuta ja loppuun vielä limekakkua ja juustoja.

I have had quite many luxorious dinners at the dining hall, so I decided to go tothe buffet this time. It was a good decision as they had sushi!

Illan esitys oli yksi laivan parhaista, naiskoomikko joka yhdisti esityksessään stand upin ja upean lauluäänensä. Kuulostaa oudolta, mutta toimi! Tapasin Oton juuri ennen esitystä ja shown jälkeen seuraamme liittyivät myös Dimas, Erin ja Cai. Muut suomalaisseurueen jäsenet kärsivät aikaerosta ja olivat jo menneet nukkumaan. Menimme pelaamaan kannelle jo Titanicilta tuttua peliä, jonka sääntöjä emme tienneet, mutta sovelsimme:

The nights show was one of the best, a women comedian who combined stand up and her stunning singing voice. Sounds strange, but it was great! I met Otto just before the show and after the show also Dimas, Erin, and Cai joined us. We went to the outer Deck 4 to play shuffleboard, apparently a game familiar already from the Titanic. We didn't know the rules but tried anyway:







Kello 22.30 Studio B:ssä alkoi laivakisailu nimeltään Quest. Kuusi joukkuetta joutui löytämään yleisöltä mahdollisimman nopeasti erilaisia esineitä ja tekemään kaikenlaista hassua.

At 10.30 pm we went to see Quest at Studio B. Six teams had a competion to find different items from the audience and doing all sorts of funny things.

Kävimme kuuntelemassa Blue Moonissa jazzia ja sitten menimme pelaamaan minigolfia. Oli myöhä, mutta Otto ja minä jatkoimme vielä iltaa 11. kerroksen uima- ja porealtaaseen ennen nukkumaanmenoa.

We went to listen jazz at the Blue Moon bar and then we went to the Sports Court to play a round of minigolf. It was late, but Otto and I continued to the pool and hot tubs on 11th Deck before going to sleep.













12/80: Hemmottelun aika / Time for pampering 11.11.2014

Tiistaiaamuna heräsin kahdeksalta – tietenkin sen ansiosta, että kelloja oli siirretty jälleen tunnin verran taaksepäin. Sain vihdoinkin aikaiseksi käydä kuntosalilla ja sitten varasin itselleni ajan kauneushoitolaan vielä samalle aamupäivälle. Hemmottelupaketti sisälsi jalkahieronnan, selkä- ja hartiahieronnan, minikasvohoidon ja silmänympäryshoidon sekä päänahkahieronnan, lasillista shampanjaa unohtamatta! Etelä-Afrikasta kotoisin oleva nainen nimeltään Andy tiesi, mitä oli tekemässä, ja lähdin virkistäytyneenä lounaalle Windjammeriin. Tällä kerralla lounaalle ottivat osaa Erin, Dimas, Otto ja Vesa.

I woke up on Tuesday at 8 am because the clocks had been turned one hour back again. I finally got myself into gym and then I booked a spa treatment for the same morning, including foot and anle massage, back massage, a mini facial, and scalp massage, plus a glass pf champagne. A lady called Andy from South Africa certainly knew what she was doing, and I left refreshened to have a lunch with Erin, Dimas, Otto, and Vesa.




Osallistuin vielä yhdelle Michael Hickin historialuennolle, tällä kertaa aiheena oli Puerto Rico. Sen jälkeinen Jeff Mathyn viiniluento oli todella hyödyllinen ja käytännönläheinen, mm. mihin kiinnittää huomiota kun viinipullo tuodaan pöytään

I took part in one more another history lesson by Mr. Michael Hick, this time about Puerto Rico. The wine lesson by Jeff Mathy was really practical one, about things you should pay attention to when the wine is served to you etc.




Kävin Dimasin kanssa välipalalla – käytännössä toisella lounaalla – Windjammerissa, ja onneksi tarjolla oli myös tätä basilikamoussea! Koko risteilyn parhaita jälkiruokia.

I went with Dimas to have afternoom snacks – but actually it was another lunch – to Windjammer, and luckily also this super delicious basil mousse was available! It is one of the best desserts here.

Vietimme iltapäivää aurinkotuoleissa, ja viiden jälkeen menimme ihastelemaan auringonlaskua laivan keulaan:

We spent the afternoon in sun chairs, and after 5 pm we went to the front of the ship to see the sunset:













Vietettyäni aikaa omassa rauhassa menin jälleen syömään sushia ja muita herkkuja Windjammeriin ja yhdeksältä menin katsomaan Erinin, Cain, Dimasin, Dianan, Oton ja Emilian kanssa illan taikurishown "Magic & Beyond". Sitten menimme promenadille katsomaan 70-luvun teemashowta.

I went again to eat some sushi and other delicacies to Windjammer's after spending some time alone, and at 9 pm I went to see the night's show Magic & Beyond to the Lyric theatre with Erin, Cai, Dimas, Diana, Otto, and Emilia. Then we went to the Promenade to watch the 70's theme show.







13/80: Päivä aurinkotuolissa / Day in the Sun Chair 12.11.2014

Keskiviikkoaamuna yritin aloittaa rinkan pakkaamisen, koska tiedän, että kolmena tulevan saaripäivänä aika menee vielä nopeammin kuin merellä. Kävin aamiaisella ja sitten siirryin kirjojen ja iPadin kanssa aurinkotuoliin, jossa meni useampi tunti. Altailla oli jälleen kilpailuja ja aktiviteetteja, ja sään ollessa oikein hyvä pelkkään tyhjän aurinkotuolin löytämiseen meni aikaa! Kirjoitin tätä blogipäivitystä, selasin Honolulun matkaopasta ja luin pari kappaletta Vernen kirjaa. Kävin Oton kanssa lounaalla, josta jatkoin viimeiselle viiniluennolle, jossa tapasin Erinin ja Dimasin. Luento oli viinin tekemisen likaisista salaisuuksista. Enpä olisi uskonut, mitä kaikkea viineihin laitetaan! Vietin 11. kannen ulkokannella aikaa auringonlaskuun asti ja sitten lähdin valmistautumaan iltaan. Lähtiessäni huomasin toisen laivan horisontissa:

On Wednesday morning I tried to start packing ny backpack, because I know that the following three dauys on islands will go very fast. I had a breakfast and then went to the poolside with my books and iPad. After I found a sun chair, that is a challenge despite of hundreds of chairs, I spent there many hours. I wrote this blog post, had o look on travel guide book of Honolulu, and read a couple of chapters from Verne's book. I had a lunch with Otto and then headed to the last wine lesson where I met Erin and Dimas. The lesson was called the dirty secrets in wine making. I would not have believed they put all that to wine! I spent time at the 11th outer deck until sunset and then it was time to get ready for the dinner. When going to my cabin I noticed another ship in the horizon:







Ruokailin illallissalissa ja yhdeksältä oli jälleen musiikkiesitys teatterilla, jonka jälkeen Karibialle saapumista juhlistettiin ulkokannen bileillä.

I had a dinner at the dining hall and at 9 pm there was another music show at the theatre, followed by a poolside party.










Illan pukukoodina oli valkoinen, joten tapaamani suomalaiset: kaimani Liisa, Vesa, Otto ja Emilia päättivät laittaa toogat päälle ja saivat mukaan myös mm. walesiläisen Cain:

Dress code of the evening was white. Finns I have met: another Liisa, Vesa, Otto, and Emilia decided to wear togas, and among some others also Cai from Wales did the same:
