At the moment I am in Fiji, but in this blog post I return to my weekend in Orlando and San Diego one and half weeks ago.
23/80: Orlando - San Diego 22.11.2014
Lauantai Orlandossa oli pilvinen ja sateinen. Vietin rauhallisen aamun lentokenttähotelli Renaissancessa. Hotelli oli todella hyvä, enkä ole tainnut koskaan ennen nukkua niin pehmeissä lakanoissa! Lentoni San Diegoon oli alkuillasta, joten päätin lähteä käymään vain lähialueella sijaitsevassa ostoskeskuksessa, Florida Mall:issa. Olin katsonut, että bussimatka sinne kestäisi alle puoli tuntia. Valitettavasti otin bussin ensin väärään suuntaan. Bussissa luki isolla FLORIDA MALL, mutta se oli itse asiassa tulossa sieltä. Käyntini ostoskeskuksessa siis lyheni entisestään. Ehdin kuitenkin käydä lounaalla Red Lobsterissa ja parissa vaatekaupassa, joista Garagessa oli ehdottomasti minulle mieluisin valikoima. Ostoskeskus oli jo koristeltu joulun odotusta varten.
It was cloudy and rainy on that Saturday in Orlando. I spent a peacuful morning at the airport hotel Renaissance. I had my flight to San Diego early in the evening, so I decided just to visit Florida Mall, that was nearby. I had looked that the bus would take under half an hour to get there. Unfortunately I took the bus at first to the wrong direction. It said FLORIDA MALL in the bus, but actually it was coming from there. That is why my visit to the mall became even shorter, but I had enough time to have a lunch at Red Lobster and go to a couple of shops. The shopping centre had already been decorated for Christmas season.
Olin onnekas paluubussin suhteen, ja ehdin takaisin hotellille ennen kolmea. Kolmelta menin lentokentälle shuttlella. Kuski oli todella ystävällinen ja avulias. Orlandon lentokentällä oli maksuton ja suhteellisen toimiva wifi, joka oli mukava yllätys. Joulukuusi keskellä lentokenttää puolestaan näytti vähän hassulta. Alaska Airlinesin lento lähti ajallaan San Diegoon, mutta saavuimme sinne hieman myöhässä. Lennon aikana siirryin kolmen aikavyöhykkeen verran eteenpäin.
I was back at the hotel before 3 pm, when I took the shuttle to the airport. Alaska Airlines oparated the flight to San Diego.
Olin suunnitellut meneväni hostellille bussilla, mutta lennon oltua myöhässä katsomani bussit olivat jo menneet. Sain sovittua shuttlekyydin 10 dollarin hintaan. Saavuttuani hostellille tapasin muita siellä majoittuvia, ja kävimme hakemassa juotavaa läheiseltä huoltoasemalta ja vietimme iltaa hostellin edustalla olevassa pöytäryhmässä. Itse menin nukkumaan puolenyön jälkeen, kun Floridan aikaa kello oli tuolloin jo kolme.
I had planned to take the bus to the hostel, but as the flight was a bit late the buses I had checked were already gone. I took a shuttle ($10) instead. When I arrived to the hostel I met other guests and went to buy something to drink from the gas station nearby. We spent the evening in the outdoor area, although I went asleep already after midnight when others still continued the evening.
24/80: San Diego & Del Mar, CA 23.11.2014
Sunnuntai Kaliforniassa oli siihenastisen matkani onnistunein päivä, vaikka se alkoikin aamulla tylsästi pyykinpesulla. Hostellilla oli tarjolla maksutonta aamupalaa, ja vaikka se olikin pelkkiä vehnätuotteita, otin silti mieluusti maksuttoman ruoan vastaan. Tässä kuvia hostellilta:
Sunday in California was the best day during this journey that far, although the day started with doing laundry at the hostel. They served free breakfast there, and although it was only wheat products, I was glad about some free food. Here are some pictures from the hostel:
Olin varannut hiekkalinnaohjaajan edellisenä päivänä Del Marin rannalle, ja haasteena oli päästä noin 20 mailin päähän kohtuuhintaan käyttämättä julkisilla liikkumiseen kahta tuntia suuntaansa. Onneksi sain sovittua edellisiltana sveitsiläisen Fabion kanssa, että hän veisi minut puoliltapäivin Del Mariin matkallaan kohti Las Vegasia. Annoin hänelle 15 dollaria vaivanpalkkaa. Ennen hiekkalinnan tekoa kävin Jake's-ravintolassa lounaalla ja ehdin ottaa kuvia rannalla. Kuvat ovat pääosin aiemmassa blogipäivityksessä.
I had booked a sand castle instructor to the Del Mar beach the day before, and the challenge was to have an affordable transportation there without using two hours each way for public transportation. Luckily I had agreed with Fabio the previous night, that he would take me there on his way to Las Vegas. As a thank you I gave him $15. Before the appointment I had time to have lunch at restaurant called Jake's and I also had time to take some photos at the beach. The photos are mainly in a previous blog post.
Yleensä hiekkalinnaohjaajat ovat varattuja vähintään useiksi päiviksi tai jopa viikoiksi eteenpäin, joten olin onnekas, että Tonyllä oli vapaa iltapäiväaika tuona sunnuntaina. Hän oli todella taitava, luova ja kärsivällinen ohjaaja, ja hiekkalinnan tekeminen oli todella mukavaa. Aktiviteetti oli ehdottomasti joka taalan ($120 + tippi) arvoinen! Kolme tuntia meni nopeasti, ja jäin rannalle vielä auringonlaskuun asti. Kuvat ovat pääosin aiemmassa blogipäivityksessä. Sitten söin illalliseksi todella hyvän lohisalaatin Poseidon-ravintolassa. Olin saanut vinkin, että lataamalla puhelimeen Uber-sovelluksen ensimmäisestä matkasta saisi 30 dollarin alennuksen. Tämän alennuksen ansiosta matkani takaisin hostellille maksoi vain 1.98 dollaria! Uber osoittautui muutenkin aivan loistavaksi palveluksi, suosittelen kokeilemaan!
Usually sand castle instructors are booked for days, even for weeks ahead, so I was really lucky to get an appointment on such a short notice. Tony was really talented creative, and patient instructor, and I had so much fun in making a sand castle. It was definitely worth it ($120 plus tip). Three hours went quickly, and I stayed at the beach until the sunset. Photos are mainly in the previous blog post. Then I dined at restaurant called Poseidon, and I had an amazing salad with salmon. I had got a tip to get Uber app to my phone, and to have 30 dollar discount from my first ride, so with the discount it was only 1.98 dollars back to the hostel! Uber was overall a brilliant service, you should try it also!

Floridan osuus ei kuulunut onnistuneimpiin kokemuksiin tällä matkalla, vaikka junamatka Miamista Orlandoon oli mukava. Orlandoa en juurikaan nähnyt, joten en osaa sanoa siitä oikeastaan mitään. En usko aivan heti sinne kuitenkaan palaavanikaan. Kalifornia on puolestaan kuulunut suosikkeihini jokaisella sinne tekemälläni matkalla, missä päin Kaliforniaa sitten olenkaan ollut. Toivon todella palaavani San Diegonkin alueelle ja ylipäätään Kaliforniaan piakkoin. Nyt oli kuitenkin aika jatkaa matkaa Havaijille ja sitten eteenpäin, jotta näkisin maailmanympärimatkallani muutakin kuin Yhdysvaltoja.
The part when I travelled in Florida did not belong to the best experiences during this journey, although I enjoyed taking the train from Miami to Orlando. I didn't see much of Orlando, so I hardly can say anything about it. California on the other hand has been my favorite on every holiday I have had there. I really hope I will return one day there, and also to San Diego area. Now it was time to continue to Hawaii and then onwards – I am travelling around the world anyway, so I should see also other countries than only the United States.
